WBS

I’ve been working on a detailed Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for a project I am assisting in for 6 days now and I still haven’t finished it. That’s how big this project is. It’s composed of several big modules which are comprised of several micro modules and each micro module can re-appear in a big module.

I’ve noticed that some project managers don’t even use a WBS. I wonder how they are able to get away with it. One may reason that they either have it all in their head, albeit at a very high level, or maybe the project team simply realizes what needs to be done next after they have finished doing a phase of the project.

These are the times when even I am afraid that I am placing to much detail into the work when it may not even be necessary.
