I finally caught the Restaurant City flu. My strategy is to try to maintain the highest possible Popularity rating (50). This strategy should earn me more money since the dishes never increase in cost. Everything sells at 2 dollars, whether it be a level 1 or level 10 dish. The levels only affect the Popularity rating. The higher the level of a dish, the more Popularity points it gives.
When I visit other player’s restaurants, they give off a “fine dining” vibe. This means that the player has spent a lot of money spicing up the place, but very few customers go in to eat. Again, if patrons will only pay 2 dollars a piece, I see no other reason to go this route if profit is the main motivation. Then again, maybe I’m being too harsh. Others may find satisfaction in knowing that their restaurant is beautiful. And there might be a stage where the influx of cash is simply overwhelming, you can’t do anything with it but spend it.
But while not yet at that money surplus stage, I would invest in items that would increase my Popularity points, or items that prevent these points from dropping drastically. Increasing menu levels is always a good thing. Invest money in ingredients & seeds. Focusing on one item per dessert, drink, main dish and starter is also good too. Wash basins add to the popularity points. Arcade machines help in preventing the popularity points from declining rapidly since these serve as distractions for waiting customers. If anyone else spots an item that helps with Popularity points, please let me know.
The developers of the game ought to look into the possibility of variable pricing. If a dish is at a higher level, shouldn’t customers pay more for it? If a restaurant has a “fine dining vibe”, shouldn’t the food cost more? If variable pricing is introduced into the game, I might start retooling for a quality based approach. But at present, a quantity based approach rules!!!
