Spent the whole morning trying to figure out what was causing Error Code 772: “The remote computer’s network hardware is incompatible with the type of call requested” whenever I was trying to connect to a broadband Internet connection.
I tried to make sure it was not my ISP so I borrowed a laptop, made a connection to the ISP using that laptop, and lo and behold, everything was going well. So the issue was with the desktop. “Always try a known good part to try and isolate the issue.”
So I had to figure out if it was a hardware or software issue. I tried researching the code on the Internet. Some advised using netsh on the command line. Others were discussing a DUN error 772, but I was using a DSL connection. The thought of malware, spyware or a virus messing up with the desktop system crossed my mind. But going through all that was just a long process. I decided to look for a quicker solution.
Then I remembered that the other day, other users of the desktop complained that they could not start up the computer for some reason. Faulty hardware perhaps, there was no one with a spare LAN card I could borrow from. So off to the computer shop I went. The price of the NIC was a small amount to pay compared with satisfying my curiosity.
Finally got home, plugged in the NIC, and tested the connection. That’s how I was able to blog this post. All is well with the world again … for now. A day is truly rewarding if all one’s hardwork pays off. Time to celebrate with some Coffee Crumble Ice Cream!
well very good job, but here’s my case which is the same but i don’t think that’s the NIC, i have a wireless modem that’s connected via ethernet to the PC and it works fine if directly connected, but when i made an ethernet cable to extend the distance this error happened

Well, at least you were also able to recognize the source of the problem. Same problem, different solutions =D
